Derrick vs Apollo
Two ways to pay for B2B data: Apollo bundles a contact database and outreach tools into a per-seat subscription; Derrick charges small credit amounts per verified result from a spreadsheet, API or AI assistant. Here is the honest split, with sources.
GrowthToolz publishes this comparison. We make LinkedIn Bulk Search, one of the products covered here. Where our product is part of a comparison, we say so and link the sources behind every claim so you can check them.
The short answer
Pick Apollo if you want the whole outbound motion in one login - database search, sequences, dialer, meetings, pipeline - and you're happy with per-seat pricing, billed annually for the headline rates.
Pick Derrick if the job is enrichment rather than engagement: you have leads or companies and want emails, phones and firmographics appended at a few tenths of a cent per lookup, from a Google Sheets sidebar, a web app, an API, or an AI assistant via MCP - with unused credits that roll over.
Pick neither if your job is smaller than both: matching a list of names and companies to LinkedIn profiles inside a spreadsheet. That one job is what our own add-on, LinkedIn Bulk Search, does - more on that below.
Side by side
| Derrick | Apollo | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | B2B data enrichment tool: web app, Google Sheets sidebar, REST API and MCP server on one credit balance | All-in-one sales platform: contact database plus engagement (sequences, dialer, meetings, pipeline) |
| Pricing model | Credits in EUR, pay per verified result; finders only charge when they find something | Per-seat subscription in USD plus a pooled credit allowance per billing cycle |
| Free tier | 100 credits per month, no credit card | Free plan at $0: 900 credits per seat per year, granted monthly; 2 sequences, Gmail only |
| Entry paid plan | Standard at €20/month for 10,000 credits | Basic at $49 per seat per month billed annually; 30,000 credits per seat per year, granted upfront |
| Email cost | 5 credits per email found (€0.01 at the Standard rate of €0.002/credit) | 1 credit per email |
| Phone cost | 200 credits per phone found (€0.40 at the Standard rate) | 8 credits per phone number |
| Unused credits | Roll over month to month on paid plans | Reset each billing cycle; no rollover (their FAQ) |
| Outreach | None built in - pushes free to La Growth Machine, lemlist, HeyReach, Instantly, webhooks | Built in: sequences on every plan, dialer, meetings, pipeline on paid tiers |
| API / MCP | Both, from the Plus plan (€47.50/month) up | API access listed on every plan including free; their site also markets an MCP product |
| Standout data | French company data (SIRET/SIREN, NAF codes), Google Maps and Google News imports, job-change and funding signals on paid plans | "240M contacts & 30M companies" (vendor-stated), intent topics, website visitor identification |
A caution on the per-email and per-phone rows: the two credit systems are not directly comparable. Derrick's credits are the whole product; Apollo's credits sit on top of a per-seat subscription that also pays for the outreach platform. Compare total monthly cost for your volume, not credit line items.
Where each one wins
Derrick wins when…
- You want enrichment without a seat subscription: €20 entry, credits that roll over, and finders that only bill when they return a result.
- You work in Google Sheets or want an AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, any MCP client) to run enrichments directly.
- French or European company data matters - SIRET/SIREN enrichment and NAF-code imports are built in.
- Your outreach already lives in a dedicated sending tool and you just need data pushed into it.
Apollo wins when…
- You want find-to-sequence in one platform, with a dialer and pipeline attached.
- Database breadth and intent data matter more than per-lookup cost.
- Several people on the team will use it daily - pooled credits and per-seat pricing start to make sense.
- You want a free tier that already includes sequences and API access.
Where our product fits (and where it doesn't)
Both of these are built for people running ongoing outbound. If that's you, the comparison above is the honest one and our add-on is not the answer.
If your actual task is narrower - you have names and companies (or target companies) and you need matching LinkedIn profiles back in the Google Sheet you're already working in - then a database subscription or an enrichment platform is more tool than the job calls for. LinkedIn Bulk Search does that one job: it matches your rows against public search results, grades each match so you can review it, and never touches your LinkedIn account. It does not find emails or phones - the same honesty we apply to Derrick and Apollo above.
What we can't verify (and won't claim)
- Data accuracy, either side. Both vendors market data quality; we haven't run a controlled test of either, and independent numbers in this category vary widely. Both have free tiers - test on your own list.
- Database size. "240M contacts & 30M companies" is Apollo's own marketing figure; we found no independent audit.
- Apollo's monthly-billing prices. Apollo's pricing page defaults to annual billing ("Save 24%") and renders prices dynamically; we read the annual view on the date shown above. Their own FAQ confirms monthly billing costs more.
- Ratings. Apollo's pricing page displays "4.7/5 based on 9,690 reviews"; Derrick's site displays 4.6/5 on Google Workspace, 4.5/5 on G2 and 4.6/5 on Trustpilot from 323 reviews (as shown when checked). Ratings move; check the live listings.
